Joshua 16 - 18 (27th Mar) - Josh

Joshua 16-18

Israel is in the midst of their conquest of the promise land. Chapter 16-18 marks the division of land for the tribe of Manasseh and Ephraim. They were too numerous a people and Joshua challenged them to conquer more land for themselves. Some practical lessons on inheritance to help us believe and achieve more.

Fight for your inheritance.

The response of the people of Joseph was interesting. "Why have you given us only one allotment and one portion for an inheritance?" -Joshua 17:14

Joshua's reponse was "You are numerous and very powerful... though the Canaanites have iron chariots, and though they are strong, you can drive them out." - Joshua 17:18.

In the midst of war, the sons of Joseph saw inheritance as a "given" and shun at opposition (v16). Joshua's challenge defined inheritance. It is to be fought for.

Envision your inheritance.

He further stressed his point in chapter 18, when he gathered the tribes and said "How long will you wait before you begin to take possession of the land that the LORD, the God of your fathers, has given you?" He went on to organize reccee teams to map out the land and command each tribe to plot out the land they are to inherit. What they could see, they could inherit.

It's a familiar sound to listen to an inheritance sermon or read an inheritance word but fail to fight and claim the inheritance of God in our lives. God has promised to lead us in triumphant possession always, spreading everywhere the fragrance of Christ. Envision and fight for your inheritance.
