2 Samuel 10, 1 Chronicles 19, Psalm 20 (11th May) - Li Juan

2 Samuel 10, 1 Chronicles 19 - David Defeats the Ammonites
David sent a delegate to show kindness to Hanun (son of king of Ammonite) with regards to his father’s death. However, the ammonites think that David just wants to take this opportunity to spy and overthrow the city. Hanun humiliated these delegates and the Ammonites became a “stench in David’s nostrils”. (Are the Ammonites as smelly as ammonia? Or the name ammonia came from here??) The Ammonites summoned soldiers and from everywhere to help fight against David and his army. However, the Israelites won all the battles fought and all the kings became subject to them! Why?

“Be strong and let us fight bravely for our people and the cities of our God. The Lord will do what is good in his sight.”

Psalm 20
“Some trusts in chariots and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God.”

Similarly, do not put your hopes on earthly things or make them the centre of your life, but in God and only God. When you are doing God’s will, you do not have to fear because God will bless you with success and victory!
