Jeremiah 49 – 50 (23rd August) - Sylvia

Jeremiah 49

God speaks out of the things He is going to bring upon the cities that went against Him.
Ammon, Edom, Damascus, Kedar and Hazor, Elam.

What do they have in common?

All of their rulers and people did wrong in God’s eyes thus He is going to bring about a downfall that will shock other cities as they see the ruins of once a mighty and glorious kingdom.

Notice that for Ammon and Edom, God is merciful and says He will restore their fortunes.

V6 “Yet afterward, I will restore the fortunes of the Ammonites” declares the Lord.
V39 “Yet I will restore the fortunes of Elam in days to come” declares the Lord.

And surely we know that God NEVER goes back on His word.

Jeremiah 50

This passage is entirely about the Lord speaking on how Babylon will be destroyed.
Babylon which dared to attack Israel, would be attacked by a strong and mighty army. IT would be in such ruins and despair that when the city has finally been captured, nations would hear its cry, there would be such a great impact.

This speaks of our Lord’s mighty wonder. Only by His hand can there be great victory over the strongest enemies impossible to defeat and overcome by human means.

“But by His might, we are set free!”
